In the book Because of Winn Dixie by Kate DiCamillo, India Opal finds a dog at the grocery store. She decides to name the dog Winn Dixie because that was the name of the grocery store. She brings the dog home and her dad, the preacher, lets her keep Winn Dixie. This book is Realistic Fiction.
I think that the author does a great job of describing Winn Dixie. For example, the author describes Winn Dixie's smile as, "I had never before in my life seen a dog smile, but that is what he did. He pulled back his lips and showed me all his teeth." (p. 8)
This book reminds me of my dog Oliver. He always smiles at me when he is happy. He also gets sad when I leave him at home, just like Winn Dixie! I wish I could take him everywhere that I go like India Opal does.
What would you do if you found a dog at the grocery store?
